Electronics are the fastest growing waste stream that is produced annually around the world with only around 25% being recycled. Over 75 percent of this e-waste turns into a toxic waste stream that ends up in our landfills or sent to undeveloped countries where it is poorly processed or dumped posing long-term risks to human health and the environment. Almost all electronic equipment especially computers and televisions, contain toxic heavy materials such as lead, cadmium, and mercury.

By choosing a certified electronic recycler you can be assured these toxic materials never reach our landfills, incinerators or dumped overseas. Recycling electronic waste can also recover valuable resources that can be reused which conserves natural resources by reducing production. The electronic and computer equipment we collect will be taken apart and separated into materials such as glass, plastic, metal, and toxic materials. Magnolia Data Solutions currently has the ability to recycle 100% of all of the electronic materials that come through our facility.

  • Common Toxins Found In Electronics Arium: Used in the front panel of the CRT (cathode ray tube) to protect users from radiation. Short-term exposure to barium can cause brain swelling, muscle weakness, and damage to the heart, liver and spleen.
  • Beryllium: Found on motherboards and connectors, beryllium is a human carcinogen.
  • Brominated Flame Retardants: Likely endocrine disrupters, these flame retardants reduce levels of the hormone thyroxin in exposed animals and can potentially harm the developing fetus.
  • Cadmium: Found in SMD chip resistors, infrared detectors, semiconductors, older types of cathode ray tubes and some plastics, cadmium is linked to kidney damage and may harm fragile bones.
  • computer recycling dallas txHexavalent Chromium: Used to protect untreated and galvanized steel plates from corrosion and as a hardener for steel housing, hexavalent chromium can cause DNA damage and asthmatic bronchitis.
  • Lead: CRT (cathode ray tube) displays contain 4-12 pounds of lead. Lead is also found in solder. Lead is toxic to the kidneys, nervous and reproductive systems, and inhibits mental development of young children and fetuses.
  • Mercury: Found in light bulbs in flat panel displays, switches, and printed wiring boards. Linked to brain and kidney damage. Mercury, which can be passed through breast milk and fish consumption, is also extremely harmful to developing fetuses.
  • Plastics: Found in printed circuit boards and components such as connectors, plastic covers, and cables, the average computer contains up to 13.8 pounds of plastic. Dioxin can be formed when PVC is burned. Combinations of plastics are hard to separate and recycle.
  • Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB’s): Usually found in ballasts can cause chloracne (a painful disfiguring skin illness), nausea, dizziness, eye irritation and bronchitis. Ingestion of PCBs can cause liver damage and digestion problems.
